Designing a Scalable Discovery Feature to Drive Repeat Engagement

I led the launch of a newsroom platform that transformed Viatris’ static site into a structured content discovery system. The goal was to increase repeat engagement by making policy updates, research, and company initiatives easier to find and navigate. I designed modular templates and a scalable content structure that translated into a CMS driven publishing system, enabling internal teams to manage and expand the platform over time.

Problem

Men’s Health wanted to turn its trusted training expertise into a digital experience. The challenge was to guide users through structured programs that adapted to their fitness level, while staying true to the brand’s confident, motivating tone.

Solution

Partnered with Men’s Health editors and trainers to bring expert fitness content to life in a motivating digital experience. Simplified discovery and program flow to help users stay consistent, and delivered a bold, structured app that launched as a 20-day guided plan.

Problem

The corporate website functioned largely as a static presence, with limited fresh content and no structured discovery model. Users had little reason to return, and the platform lacked clear pathways to support ongoing engagement, content exploration, and growth.

Solution

I led a broader evolution of the Viatris site, introducing a newsroom platform designed to drive repeat engagement and content discovery. This walkthrough highlights the newsroom feature and key entry points, where we shifted from a static destination to a structured engagement layer. We improved discovery through clearer hierarchy, taxonomy, and search, while creating modular templates that translated into a scalable CMS publishing system for internal teams.

Key Decisions

Constraints

Static experience driving low return visits → Introduced structured discovery and tag filtering

Dense content reducing clarity → Restructured into modular, navigable components

Regional and global content fragmented → Unified IA to improve surfacing and cross-linking

At the design stage we validated the IA through content audits, journey mapping, and qualitative feedback. After launch, success was measured through behavioral signals like navigation flow, content depth, and repeat visits to confirm discovery improved.

Stakeholders were initially hesitant to separate larger updates into individual entries, concerned it would create more work. However, bundling initiatives together had reduced clarity and made content harder to find. Working closely with teams, we introduced a consistent publishing structure aligned to company priorities, making updates easier to manage in the CMS while improving content discoverability. Tag filtering added an additional layer of navigation, helping users find relevant updates and encouraging return visits.

The homepage newsroom module surfaced timely updates and created a clear starting point. Keyword and tag filters helped users quickly find what mattered to them, guiding them into the full newsroom feature and encouraging repeat visits.

The newsroom hub transformed fragmented updates into a structured discovery layer, organising content by recency, type, and region. Tag-based filtering enabled users to quickly narrow information to what mattered to them, improving clarity, depth, and repeat engagement.

The article layer transformed standalone updates into structured journeys, using clear hierarchy and related content modules to guide onward exploration. This improved content context and directly increased time on page and session depth.

Results

Transformed a static corporate site into a structured discovery platform that increased return visits

Improved content findability and navigation, increasing session depth and engagement

Introduced tag-based filtering and modular components to support scalable content discovery

Established a repeatable engagement model supporting multi-region growth without redesign

Allignments

Designing discovery-driven journeys → Similar to helping users navigate complex survey creation and results workflows

Structuring complex information for clarity → Applies to organizing dashboards, reports, and survey data

Research-informed iteration → Mirrors experimentation used to improve SaaS features and engagement

Leading cross-functional delivery → Aligns with product, engineering, and design collaboration in SaaS teams
